Closing Event from 4 – 8pm

SUBject/subJECT examines women’s use of public platforms in mass media, inviting both artists and
viewers into a dialogue about role models, self-image and the messages women project in both the main-
stream and alternative media. Says Cheriel, “Now that women have ‘equal rights,’ what are we trying to
say? What’s our subject? Since female artists remain underrepresented in galleries and museums, we
created this show as a platform for emerging women artists to represent!” Featured artists include Liz
McGrath, Jen Stark, Swoon, Monica Canilao, Kime Buzelli, Mona Superhero, Meryl Smith, Mel Kadel, Jes-
sica Hess, Marissa Textor, Jesse Spears, Nikki McClure, and Co-Curator Deedee Cheriel.
Ten percent of proceeds from all SUBject/subJECT art sales will go to the Los Angeles Downtown Wom-
en’s Center, dedicated to providing permanent, supportive housing and a safe and healthy community for
homeless women.

About the Performers

The L.A. Ladies Choir
“We are dedicated to creating healing experiences for ourselves and for others, our other selves we
haven’t met. We recognize that music is a resource for strength and we have the ability to magnify our
strengths by coming together and sharing our joy!”

Jaspr Conscious
Jaspr Conscious has been called mysterious. By day she keeps her profile low as a clerk for the Depart-
ment of Propaganda Engineering. But, once she is called upon to dispel the lies that permeate man’s
soul, she finds the nearest closet and changes into a Light-Worker. She is often mistaken for an orb once
she emerges from the brooms and dust pans. You might say she’s invisible until you call her name.

Tearist
Tearist are a two piece, Yasmine & William, based out of Los Angeles. Angular and varied, their sounds
curve and weave, creating a distinct, reverberating sound. Bleeding over the lines of performance art and
proto industrial dark wave while sounding totally fresh, unique, and mysterious, Tearist are in a world of
their own creation. It’s not goth, its not industrial, it’s just (white) magic.
