“Global Warning” by NoNAME

April 18, 2019

My Munich based, artist and activist friend, NoNAME, is releasing a print called “Global Warning” to spotlight and benefit the “Fridays for Future” protest movement against climate change. I relate passionately to the cause and I even had my own print called “Global Warning” in 2009. NoNAME and I are kindred spirits. Check his image and explanation! – Shepard

“It seems almost surreal. We’re daily reading about it in the newspapers, hearing it on the radio and watching it on TV…While both the majority of the ’68 generation and today’s students, have for some reason resigned themselves to the global problems and their resulting catastrophes, it is our school children who are taking to the streets to protect their own futures.
Regardless of the warnings, it’s like we’ve already come to terms with the concept of global warming and accepted it as a given, while the actual perpetrators of the crime are pinning all their hopes for a better future on their innocent children. But this older generation seems to be forgetting that they can also reduce their own carbon footprint and make a difference by taking matters into their own hands. This starts with rethinking everything from the consumer choices they make to their decision to work in industries that are detrimental to the environment.
Building sites often have signs saying: ‘Parents are liable for their children’, but in the near future it will most likely be the children who are liable for the passivity and ignorance of their parents.
In solidarity with Greta Thunberg and the hundreds of thousands of children and young people who are making themselves heard on the streets with the ‘Fridays for Future’ demonstrations, this artwork was created a few weeks ago. We have the power in our hands right now! It’s up to us to determine what state the planet will be left in for future generations, or whether there’ll be a planet left at all.
With the support of Overrated Art Inc., I’m offering this seven-coloured hand-made silkscreen print in an exclusive edition of 50 copies only via www.overratedart.com
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the ‘Fridays for Future’ movement because all these young, woke people represent the future and deserve our support!” – NoNÅME
