Flaming Lips X Space Oddity

April 15, 2016

I love David Bowie AND the Flaming Lips, so it is no surprise I dig this Flaming Lips cover of Space Oddity, Bowie’s breakthrough hit from 1969 which many considered a novelty song that exploited the fervor over the imminent moon landing. I think over the years the song has resonated with people in a more metaphorical way, maybe symbolizing the loneliness of venturing outside of one’s comfort zone intellectually or emotionally. The Flaming Lips balance the quirky and profound masterfully, and I love their version of Space Oddity and video. Check it out!
