Ron Asheton, founding member and guitarist, alongwith Iggy Pop, of one of my favorite bands, The Stooges died of a heart attack last week. I got into The Stooges after first hearing the Sex Pistol’s cover of their song “No Fun”. I really believe that punk started with The Stooges. I was lucky enough to see The Stooges play live three times after they re-formed in 2000. The shows were intense for a young band, much less guys who were in their 50’s. This is a sad day for fans of visceral rock.
