RFK MURAL IN KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES

May 27, 2016

I just completed my Robert F. Kennedy mural as part of the Branded Arts RFK Mural Festival, an event with Branded Arts, LAUSD and Thinkspace Gallery designed to promote art in schools and specifically for the RFK Community Schools located at the site of the former Ambassador Hotel.  RFK is a hero of mine for his positions on racial equality during the Civil Rights movement.  His speech after Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination is one of the greatest speeches ever delivered.  The opportunity to do a mural at a high school that focuses on art and social justice is great for many reasons, but it allowed the artists to demonstrate to the kids how firsthand, large-scale works come together.  Things that might seem impossible to do until you see the process unfold, so it is an empowering experience for them.

I’m also proud to be part of the group of other artists that were there like Cyrcle, Sam Flores, RISK, Jeff Soto, David Flores, Paige Smith and many others.  Please take a moment to read about the festival and learn more about RFK and his legacy.  Also, check out all the posts and hashtags around the mural festival to see it all come together.  Thanks for the support! – Shepard
