The Clash is one of my main inspirations because they powerfully combined art with social and political statements. I made this nod to their “Give ‘Em Enough Rope” cover as a reminder that democracy only works when we vote. Power in too few hands yields tyranny is a concept I’m sure the Clash and I agree on. Under the current president, we are on the precipice of full-blown tyranny as he and his cronies disable the post office, suppress the vote, and sow doubt about the election process. Vigilant participation in democracy, in pursuit of the values of democracy, is the only remedy.
