Greenpeace USA and Artist Shepard Fairey Launch Collaboration to Ask President Biden: Which Future Will You Deliver?

Greenpeace USA and graphic artist Shepard Fairey are unveiling a new art collaboration and campaign pushing President Joe Biden to end the era of fossil fuel racism and deliver on the promise of a Green New Deal. A new piece Fairey designed for Greenpeace and the climate movement depicts two possible futures — one in which Joe Biden delivers on his promises to prioritize climate and environmental justice, and one in which fossil fuel corporations escape accountability for their decades of pollution and deceit. Today we ask Joe Biden: which future will you deliver?

“This campaign is about people like you and me versus corporate polluters who have poisoned our climate, our bodies, and our democracy for their profit. We know which side oil and gas giants like Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and BP are on. They poured millions into electing Trump, lobbied his administration to weaken environmental protections, and even donated to the members of Congress who incited a white supremacist coup attempt at the Capitol. It’s time for these companies and their executives to be held accountable, and for our country to begin the transition towards a renewable energy economy that puts people’s health and well-being first. There’s no more time for middle of the road solutions from President Biden.”
Greenpeace is launching a 100-day effort urging President Biden to side with working people over fossil fuel polluters. The campaign will include a range of actions people across the country can take to push the new administration for bold solutions to the climate crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, and racial injustice. Greenpeace USA Climate Campaign Director Janet Redman said:
“The first 100 days are crucial in ensuring that President Biden takes action at the scale that science and justice demand. Re-entering the Paris agreement and stopping the Keystone XL pipeline is a great — but incomplete — start for the Biden administration. The reality is that simply reversing Trump’s damage won’t be enough. Joe Biden has a chance to end the era of fossil fuel racism, and to transition from an extractive economy to one that puts people and the planet first. He must seize this opportunity to deliver justice for the communities that have dealt with fossil fuel pollution for generations, and create new opportunities for everyone — no matter their race and where they come from — to thrive. Our movement is here to make sure he keeps his promises.”
President Biden himself has outlined four early priorities for his administration: COVID-19, economic recovery, racial equity, and the climate crisis. By embracing the vision of the Green New Deal and phasing out fossil fuels, he can address all four at once. Greenpeace urges Joe Biden to use all the tools at his disposal, including both executive action and signing new legislation into law, to avert further climate devastation while helping people recover from the pandemic.
