The next stop on the #FACINGTHEGIANT tour is in Providence, Rhode Island! As many of you may know, I moved to Rhode Island in 1988 to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. Providence was where I first created the Andre the Giant sticker, and also where I hit my first billboard – a campaign ad for Buddy Cianci. I also opened my print studio, Alternate Graphics, in 1991 where I printed my own artwork along with contract work for bands, skate shops, record labels etc..
I’m excited to bring my 30th anniversary show, “Facing the Giant: Three Decades of Dissent” to the city where it all started! I’m working with AS220, a non-profit community arts organization, to bring this show and mural to fruition. The mural that I’m painting in Providence is my 100th large scale PAINTED mural! For many years, I did paste-ups on the streets but I started hand-painting them about 10 years ago. Save the date, the public opening will be on October 25th! I’ll also be doing a public lecture at RISD which will be live-streamed on October 21st. More details to come, stay tuned! In the meantime, visit the link in bio for further info. – Shepard
