Ben Venom is an alchemist… his art transcends the perceived limitations of his materials (old punk and metal tee shirts) and subjects (heavy metal, biker, and occult iconography) to achieve something really powerful and exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sub-cultural references Ben incorporates into his work, but he filters it all through his design and illustration sensibility to make art objects that possess a unique style and charm. Ben said that he likes when contrasting elements collide to find harmony on the razor’s edge. We have Ben to thank for making quilts dangerous again, and in that spirit, I’m proud that he was down to do a collaborative series of t-shirts for Obey Clothing. Check ‘em out… they rule the wasteland!

“I’m interested in juxtaposing traditional handmade crafts with extreme elements found on the fringes of society. My work can be described as opposing forces colliding at lightening speed. Imagery found in vintage tattoos, the occult, And motorcycle gangs are stitched together with recycled materials using techniques usually relegated to your Grandmothers sewing circle. Serious, yet attempting to take on a B movie Horror film style where ridiculousness becomes genius. The question remains… Can I play with madness?” – Ben Venom
