Five or so years, an art student named Shepard Fairey began an experiment in stickering. Using and old photo of professional wrestler obey giant (R.I.P.), this young artist made stickers which bore the motto “Andre the Giant has a Posse.” The stickers were distributed through a network of friends and acquaintances, and became so widespread and popular that Shepard decided to make T-shirts, hats, and other clothing. What started as a joke turned into an industry, and now Andre not only has a posse, he also has his image on a hundred different items, from pens to skateboards.
