Today is dedicated to a man who, with a deep compassion and oratory gift, taught us to embrace humanity and stand up for equality everywhere. To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, we must progress his work to protect voting rights and equal opportunity for everyone.
The Voting Rights Act represents the strength of our nation and protects the foundation of the American way of life. I’m proud to stand up for voting rights for all eligible Americans.
I urge the Senate to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and Freedom to Vote Act to protect citizens from voter suppression. As MLK Jr. said, “We must have our freedom. We must have the right to vote. We must have equal protection under the law.” And we must keep pushing!
