Subliminal Projects is pleased to present, “It’s Still Life,” a series of new works by Los Angeles-based artist Jillian Evelyn.  The exhibition features a series of paintings, and drawings all created within the months of the pandemic. This new body  of work represents the transition of Evelyn’s familiar themes of contorted female figures and the struggles of womanhood,  to a new focus on figurative vignettes of personal reflection, presence, and growth.

“It’s Still Life” is an examination of moments of pause within our days when moments of seemingly mundane gestures or  everyday tasks initiate profound realization and perception. Though their tone is palpable, Evelyn’s figures provide little  insight into their internal dialog, allowing the viewer to project and reflect on their own daily moments of deliberation with  each piece.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Subliminal Projects is releasing two new limited edition screenprints, “Enjoying the  View (pink),” 2020, and “Enjoying the View (blue),” 2020, by Jillian Evelyn, available online only, December 2nd 10 am at  subliminalprojects.com/store. We are excited to reopen our doors with the opening of It’s Still Life on Saturday, November  14th. The gallery will be open by appointment only Saturdays and Sundays from November 14th through December 20th.  To make an appointment, please email info@subliminalprojects.com.

ABOUT JILLIAN EVELYN

Jillian Evelyn’s paintings combine the contorted female figure with graphic shapes and a limited color palette. Her work  explores the struggle of womanhood and the anxiety that arises from societal expectations. Jillian studied illustration at  the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. ABOUT SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS

Subliminal Projects is a multi-functional project space and gallery established by Shepard Fairey and Blaize Blouin in 1995  as a way to introduce skateboard culture and design to the art world. The concept grew and found roots later in Los Angeles, at a time when many artists found themselves shut out by the “art scene.” Subliminal Projects emerged as a gallery  that championed emerging and marginalized artists, built out of cultural importance to serve as a center for the community to openly express and spark dialogue about art, music and activism. Now located in the historic neighborhood of Echo  Park, Subliminal Projects continues to offer a platform for artistic exploration and innovation.
