I was saddened to find out that downtown New York culture legend Glenn O’Brien just passed away. I got to know Glenn a little bit in recent years because he interviewed me a few times, but I was aware of his contribution to many of the coolest scenes in New York, all the way back to his involvement in Andy Warhol’s studio and Interview Magazine. He later did a cable access show called “TV Party” which featured people like Basquiat and Blondie. One of my all time favorite interviews was with Glenn; I sat with him in New York for a brilliant conversation for the recent show he created with M2M called “Tea At The Beatrice With Glenn O’Brien.”
I was amazed by how intelligent, insightful, and knowledgeable Glenn was about everything. It was very meaningful validation for him to consider me worthy of being on his show, and his presence will be missed in the New York world. – Shepard
