Alternative Tentacles: Let Them Eat Jelly Beans 35th Anniversary

I heard the Alternative Tentacles comp “Let Them Eat Jellybeans” in 1984 and the powerful combination of art, music, and politics triggered an attitude and aggression within me that’s been there ever since. Personally, this was a pivotal moment and exposed me to bands like the Dead Kennedys, Flipper, the Circle Jerks, and Black Flag, all of whom still energize and inspire me today. The album artwork by Winston Smith drew me in and even inspired a Reagan themed album cover of my own. It’s hard to believe that it came out 35 years ago. If you haven’t heard it or haven’t listened to it for a while, today’s the day. – Shepard
