I’m devastated that the Supreme Court put President Obama’s Clean Power Plan on hold. In theory, the role of the Supreme Court is to act as a non-partisan interpreter of law based on historical legal precedent and the ways in which the basic attitudes of the U.S. population have evolved on issues that might invite a re-examination of legal precedent. Unfortunately what we are saddled with today is a court that not only skews conservative but also is in many ways activist about pushing a conservative agenda. Today’s ruling is a perfect example. This underscores the dangers presented by consecutive Republican presidencies where the Supreme Court justice positions can be filled with appointees who are chosen for their bias rather than their objectivity. Who would President Trump appoint?
