Subliminal Projects proudly presents Visual Language: Vistas, a group exhibition featuring a survey of artists who expand and redefine the landscape genre. This compelling tribute to California marks the third iteration of Visual Language, an ongoing curatorial collaboration with UK-based Coates & Scarry that examines art as a communication medium within specific artistic genres.
California has long been regarded as a cultural and geographical frontier, celebrated globally as a symbol of beauty, freedom, and opportunity. The state is home to 39 million people and comprises six of the world’s major biomes: marine, freshwater, forest, grassland, desert, and tundra. The relationship between these diverse ecosystems and the interconnected urban landscapes has historically inspired powerful artistic expression. As a result, California’s unique environment has attained an iconic status, visually and thematically embedded within the pop-culture lexicon— the California Dream.
In the wake of the fires impacting Los Angeles, Visual Language: Vistas centers itself as a love letter to California, embodying our shared journey of healing, rebuilding, and reimagining. In an effort to support our community directly, a portion of the proceeds from this exhibition will be donated to the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund, providing emergency relief for artists and arts workers.
