Global Premiere of “The Age of Stupid”

September 21, 2009

My friend Laura Dawn from MoveOn.org sent me this. I have not seen the film but I have the highest regard for Laura’s opinion. Anyone who has been paying attention to my art knows that I have concerns about global warming and the environment. Please take the time to read this and if you are in NY try to go to tonight’s screening.

Friends,

As part of my job as Creative Director of MoveOn, I see pretty much every political documentary out there. Ever since the ground-breaking success of An Inconvenient Truth, there have been a few great docs made about Climate Crisis, and all of them had serious merit.

But I can’t recall anything galvanizing me more than the brand new documentary, The Age of Stupid has. This review in Wired (which I’ve also attached below) says it best–please click here

or read the review below.

The Age of Stupid finally says out loud what climate scientists have been saying for years now: we are running out of time to fix this problem, with nothing less than the fate of the human race hanging in the balance. Think I’m being dramatic? Watch the film and then tell me if I’ve overstated the issue.

find your city, and get your tickets–and if you have friends outside of NYC and LA, please forward this to them and urge them to attend.

And not only will they see this important film, but they’ll also get a live-via-satellite before and after the film show co-hosted by

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Kofi Anna
Gillian Anderson
& MTV’s Gideon Yago
with special appearances by Heather Graham, Pete Postlewaite
a live performance from Moby
a live performance from Thom Yorke of Radiohead
and some inspiring ways we can actually get this problem addressed from top climate scientists, The Age of Stupid director Franny Armstrong, and MoveOn Political Director Ilyse Hogue

This is seriously the most important documentary about Climate Crisis since An Inconvenient Truth, and its going to be an eye opening, informative, moving, entertaining and crazy night! From Helsinki, to Zimbabwe, Paris, Rotterdam to NYC–even a sports stadium in Kiribati & a low lying Island in the Pacific for five thousand people—1 million people worldwide are coming together tomorrow night to see this important film. Please make sure you’re with us–it will take nothing less than all of us demanding that our world leaders LISTEN and ADDRESS THE PROBLEM NOW, THIS YEAR.

Me? I’ll be there. I’d prefer this kind of thing (global calamity due to human greed and general apathy, etc) didn’t go down on my generation’s watch.

Hope to see you at the theater! Click here for tickets: http://www.ageofstupid.net/
