Compassion (His Holiness The Dalai Lama)
We’re thrilled to be wishing a very special 75th birthday to His Holiness the Dalai Lama this year. In honor of this Diamond year, and in recognition of March 10th being Tibetan Independence Day, Shepard has created a limited-edition print of His Holiness. The work is based on an image taken by renowned photographer/documentarian Don Farber, who has spent more than 30 years covering the Tibetan leader and community in exile.
Says Shepard: “I’ve always had great admiration for His Holiness and his non-violent approach to the plight of the Tibetan people. When I was approached with the opportunity to work with this beautiful image as a sanctioned source and create a work that evokes the Dalai Lama’s presence as I feel it, I was thrilled. I hope His Holiness remains a presence of compassion in the world for many birthdays to come!”
Please show your support and bring this beautiful portrait into your home. Net proceeds will be divided between Tibet House and LA Friends of Tibet.

Wall Street’s Bailout Hustle
There is a great article by Matt Taibbi in Rolling Stone Magazine, the February Issue, about the economic meltdown and bank abuses which continue under the bail out. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck are on the cover. The article is very illuminating. I encourage everyone to check it out.

Funny or Die’s Presidential Reunion
Funny or Die has made a great video highlighting the need for increased regulation to protect people from abuse by lenders. We all hopefully know that the bailout was needed because of reckless and unethical practices by financial institutions going unchecked. Check out the video and push for increased regulation.

In a time when recession has increased library use for its FREE services, in helping the citizens find anything from a new jobs or their favorite DVDs, The Mayor wants massive cuts to the library – beginning with an 11% cut (more than most every city department) by July – followed by even deeper cuts.
Please take action. Say “NO” to the mayor’s cuts. Contact your local city council person and tell them how you feel about the library. Take the budget challenge. Watch this website to find out more about the threat to your library.
