Thousands took the the street in Sheffield, UK, to to oppose Government spending cuts and increased student fees. Protesters gathered outside the Lib Dem’s spring conference which took place in the City Hall.
A massive police operation was put in place; An 8ft perimeter fence was erected around the City Hall, and 1000 police officers were on duty to keep out protesters. All this cost £2million (of taxpayers money).
With unemployment so high and jobs being cut by the thousand every week, can we really afford to spend £2m on a fence?
